JULY 1944. BATTLES OF JASSY FOR PUTIN HILLOCK

Abstract

The article, basing on the documents of the Central Archives of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation, considers the battles of the units of the 2nd Ukrainian Front against the units of the 4th Romanian Army in local operations in July 1944. That month was characterized by quiet lull in this sector of the front, and therefore it is not sufficiently covered in research literature and memoirs. But July 1944 is an important and interesting period in the history of the Great Patriotic War, as it was at this time that the Soviet command was developing the Jassy-Kishinev offensive operation, which was a complete surprise to the enemy.
