DZHIDA DATSAN: ARCHIVAL EVIDENCES OF THE TEMPLE CONSTRUCTION HISTORY

Abstract

On the basis of new archival sources introduced into scientific circulation, the article deals with the history of the formation, construction and development of Dzhida datsan, one of the first Buddhist churches in the south of Buryatia. The history of the construction of both the main cathedral church and auxiliary premises of the monastery complex is revealed in more detail. The author characterizes the decisive role of the datsan’s publishing activity and indicates the most popular theological editions. Thus, economic experience and cultural achievements of the Buddhist monastery are analysed by authentic historical documents.
