THE ANCIENT CHINESE PHILOSOPHY AS ONE OF THE SOURCES OF THE CHINESE NATIONAL MENTALITY FORMATION

Abstract

The Chinese national mentality was formed under the influence of geographical, linguistic and religious-philosophical factors. Three great teachings of China (Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism) had a great influence on the formation of a particular psycho-type. The main ideas of these teachings were transformed, subjected to the changes caused by the turn of the eras, but their essence remained the same. Interpreted in the light of challenges of the time, they allowed preserving spiritual heritage and became a source of the Chinese national mentality formation. Traditionalism and continuity inherent in the Chinese culture have ensured national identity preservation in the context of globalization and integration.
