Abstract

The research objective includes identifying the role and place of the USA public diplomacy in Hungary in the period of political transformations (1989-1990) and in the course of the first democratic elections of 1990. The article examines activity of the American non-commercial organizations (National Endowment for Democracy, Open Society Foundation) that promoted the swift change of Hungary’s political regime in 1989-1990. Scientific originality of the study involves revealing the basic factors that influenced grant policies of the American non-commercial funds in the period of democratic reversals in the region. The conducted research has allowed the author to identify the target audience and to estimate efficiency of the USA public diplomacy programs in the period of Hungary’s political transformation.
