Higher Musical Education in Izhevsk: History and Modernity

Abstract

The research objectives are as follows: to identify specificity of higher musical education development in Udmurtia and to reveal problems in this sphere. The paper describes the basic stages of higher musical education development in Izhevsk, analyses activity of the Musical and Scenic Art Department established in the Institute of Arts and Design of the Udmurt State University, emphasizes the fact that it was the first and the only higher musical education institution in the capital city. The authors summarize historical experience and identify topical problems of the regional higher musical education, which constitutes scientific originality of the study. The research findings are as follows: the authors reveal experience of integration of the former industrial settlement “Izhevsk Plant” into musical-educational and musical-concert space of the Ural-Volga region.
