“Coverage of Classical Sources on the History of Buddhism” (Tib. chos ‘byung lung rigs sgron me) by Khensur Agvan Nyima (1907-1990) as a Source for Studying Mongolian Monasteries

Abstract

The study aims to determine the peculiarity of how the information on Mongolian monasteries is presented in the writings on the history of religion - chos byung texts. The paper describes a part of the work on Mongolian monasteries of Khalkha Mongolia from the treatise written by Khensur Agvan Nyima. Scientific novelty of the study lies in the fact that texts on the history of religion do not provide sufficient insight into the history of monasteries. As a result, the researcher has identified three ways according to which Mongolian monasteries are described in Khensur Agvan Nyima’s work.
