Institutionalization of the activities of the USSR Academy of Sciences in Yakutia in 1941-1991

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to identify the key vectors of the institutionalization of academic science in Yakutia in the period from 1941 to 1991. The initial chronological frame of the study is due to the organization of the first stationary academic structure in the region – the Yakut Permafrost Research Station of the V. A. Obruchev Institute of Permafrost Studies of the USSR Academy of Sciences. The end date is associated with the reorganization of the USSR Academy of Sciences into the Russian Academy of Sciences and the beginning of a new stage in the history of Russian science. In this regard, the article examines the key elements of the development of the regional system of the organization of academic science in Yakutia within the specified time frame, shows the key milestones of this process, highlights the most important factors for the institutionalization of the activities of the USSR Academy of Sciences in the region, which are the main focus. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the fact that, based on the involvement of documents from the archives of Moscow and Yakutsk, including those introduced by the author into scientific circulation, for the first time the main ways of institutionalization of academic activity in Yakutia are revealed , and also the most important mechanisms for the creation of institutes subordinate to the USSR Academy of Sciences in the region are identified . As a result of the study, it was found that during the period under review, the actual institutionalization of academic science took place in Yakutia. During the studied period, the Yakut base of the USSR Academy of Sciences appeared in the region, which was replaced by the Yakut branch. On the basis of the Yakut branch, in turn, the Yakut Scientific Center of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences was later established. There were 10 academic institutes within these structures. Four main mechanisms of the organization of these institutions were established, among which the key one is highlighted.
