Some information about the life and educational activities of the author of “The Tatar and Arabic Alphabet Primer” Niyat Baky Atnometev

Abstract

The aim of the research is a comprehensive study of the personality of the public figure, author of “The Tatar and Arabic Alphabet Primer” Niyat Baky Atnometev. The novelty is determined by the insufficient study of the personality of this outstanding figure of the late 18th – first half of the 19th century, who made a significant contribution to the education and culture of the Tatar and Russian population of Western Siberia, as well as the need to introduce new materials on the topic into scientific use. Based on materials from the State Archive in Tobolsk, we have identified new and supplemented existing biographical information about N. Atnometev, his family, and established his date of death. Special attention is paid to the consideration of N. Atnometev’s main work, “The Tatar and Arabic Alphabet Primer”, its place in the historical and cultural space of Siberia. It has been revealed that N. Atnometev’s primer was one of the first publications of this kind in the Russian Empire.
