Aesthetic principles of scenography in A. Ya. Tairov’s Kamerny Theatre (1914-1941)

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to characterize the emergence and development of scenographic principles in the performances of the chamber theatre. The article analyzes the theatrical and decorative art of the Moscow Kamerny Theatre, founded in 1914 by the great Russian director A. Ya. Tairov. The author examines the style and main artistic directions reflected in the scenography of the Kamerny Theatre, and also considers iconic artists and performances that define its aesthetics. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the analysis of this topic in a historical context and its connection with the artistic culture of Russia in the first half of the 20th century. As a result of the study, the identified aesthetic principles of the Kamerny Theatre’s scenography, the main techniques and technical inventions are formulated, and a conclusion is drawn about theatrical continuity.
