The phenomenon of the Ordensstaat: Interaction of the spiritual and political spheres

Abstract

The aim of this study is to identify the characteristics of the development of a society in which spiritual goals dominate (or are declared to be dominant), and other spheres of social life are considered subordinate to these goals. The article examines the activities of Catholic monastic communities as an example, tracing their historical development and integration into social life. The scientific novelty lies in identifying the process of gradual secularization of monastic orders as they achieve success in political activities. The research concludes that a corporation striving to achieve exclusively spiritual goals inevitably transitions to participation in politics, and over time, political goals begin to prevail over spiritual ones, inevitably leading to secularization.
