Russia of the 20th century in the prism of musical art in the 1900s – Sergei Rachmaninoff
Abstract
The publication is a continuation of the contextual review of Russian musical art of the 20th century. This essay is devoted to the examination of S. V. Rachmaninoff’s oeuvre of the central phase (1900s) taking into account the preceding (1890s) and subsequent periods (1910s). The main stage of Rachmaninoff’s work coincides with the transition from the Classical era to the Modern. This time gap became the central theme of his art, which led to the creation of works reflecting contradictory images and emotions. Thus, Rachmaninoff’s music not only illustrates changes in musical language, but also serves as a reflection of broader cultural and historical processes.
