Reflection of the war in the cultural heritage of postwar generations (based on materials from the Buryat Radio Committee’s Broadcasts about the Great Patriotic War)
Abstract
The aim of the present study was to introduce previously unpublished archival materials from the Buryat Radio Committee, containing radio broadcasts aired exactly 50 years ago on the eve of the 30th anniversary of the Great Victory. The broadcasts were united under the cycle "30 Years of Victory" and were dedicated to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War – natives of Buryatia. The article presents the results of a quantitative content analysis of 15 morning and evening broadcasts in Russian and Buryat, prepared by journalists from the Propaganda Department and the Literary Editorial Office of the Buryat Radio Committee. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the fact that, for the first time, broadcasts about the Great Patriotic War, which had never been published anywhere for 50 years after their airing, are introduced into public and academic circulation. The study revealed that the total duration of the broadcasts amounted to 4 hours and 13 minutes, of which evening broadcasts accounted for 2 hours and 58 minutes. The duration of morning broadcasts was 1 hour and 15 minutes. The number of broadcasts in Russian constituted 33.3% of the total, while those in Buryat made up 66.7%. The "30 Years of Victory" cycle broadcasts in Buryat were aired both in the morning and evening, whereas those in Russian were broadcast only in the evening. The conclusion is substantiated regarding the importance of turning to radio broadcasts that enrich the cultural heritage on the topic of the Great Patriotic War and provide comprehensive knowledge, allowing a meaningful understanding of real facts and events in their development and interrelation with other events and phenomena. In the year marking the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, this topic is especially relevant.
