Reason as a factor of evolution in G. W. F. Hegel's philosophy of absolute idealism

Abstract

The objective of this research is to elucidate the determinative role of reason in the unfolding evolutionary process as described within G. W. F. Hegel's ontology. The article delves into the concepts of understanding, reason, absolute spirit, "nothing," "something," as well as the stages of self-cognition of the Absolute Spirit. The process of human evolutionary development is depicted as the formation of reason, which transitions into Wisdom through Philosophy, recognizes "nothing," and returns to "nothing." The scientific novelty of this study lies in correlating Hegel's ontology's core idea of self-cognition as a continuous immanent development of all that exists with the stages of human evolution, wherein reason occupies a leading position. Through rationality, humankind comprehends and constructs the existing reality. As reason develops, the opportunity arises to traverse the path from overcoming the limitations of individual consciousness to experiencing unity with the Absolute and attaining complete freedom. The findings of the research indicate that the infinite process of self-cognition of the Absolute Spirit can be correlated with the process of human evolution. The development of rationality in the process of self-cognition opens the possibility of reaching the highest stage of human evolution – a state of complete freedom.
