Aestheticization of the ugly and the semantic self-determination of the individual

Abstract

This article aims to identify the philosophical and anthropological aspects of the forms and nature of the interaction between the aestheticization of the ugly and the assumption of the semantic integrity of the individual. To achieve this goal, the subjective component of aestheticization, the experience of including the ugly in the sphere of aesthetics and the role of the aesthetically transformed ugly in the semantic self-reflection of an individual are considered. The novelty of this article lies in the fact that the examination of the aestheticization of the ugly is given in the unity of its philosophical-anthropological and aesthetic aspects. This approach allowed us to gain a deeper understanding of the role of the ugly as a visible image of negativity in the semantic self-determination of the individual. As a result of the analysis, it was revealed that the aestheticization of the ugly becomes an aesthetic analogue, that is, an image of dialectical negation. Thus, its aestheticization acts as one of the conditions for reflection, which allows us to keep negative experiences in the field of consciousness and transform them into a source of meaning-making.
