Digital deviantology: key problems and promising directions

Abstract

The study aims to identify the most relevant trends in the emerging field of digital deviantology within the context of analyzing several key issues related to cyber-deviations (deviations in the digital environment). The article examines theoretical challenges in defining the concept of “cyber-deviation” and explores leading theoretical and methodological approaches interpreting the nature of deviations and cyber-deviations. The scientific novelty of the study lies in substantiating the need for a new field of interdisciplinary research (digital deviantology) and identifying the most promising avenues for studying cyber-deviations within this branch. The research establishes that existing approaches to cyber-deviations are overly preoccupied with analyzing specific manifestations, which are poorly systematized and classified. The article substantiates the thesis that research on cyber-deviations should shift its focus from individual deviant manifestations (deviant behavior) to the study of the developmental patterns of deviant virtual communities, the features of the destructive discourse they disseminate, and the problem of new deviations associated with human – artificial intelligence interaction.
