Peculiarities of Conversion of the Conservative Party of Great Britain from Moderate Eurooptimism to Euroscepticism (1990-2005)

Abstract

The aim of the research is to reveal the transformation features of the approaches of the Conservative Party of Great Britain in relation to European politics during the period from 1990 to 2005. The approaches to participation in European integration, formed during the above mentioned period, led the Party to holding a referendum on the country’s exit from the EU in 2016. Today these approaches continue to influence Great Britain’s relationships with European partners. The scientific originality of the research consists in determining the specificity of the Conservative Party’s approaches to the issue of participation in European integration at each of the identified stages. The results have allowed revealing the specificity of the process of the Tory Party’s transformation from Eurooptimists to Eurosceptics, analyzing the transformation of the Party leaders’ approaches during the period from 1990 to 2005.
